SWORDPLAY 2015 IS A SET OF MAN-TO-MAN COMBAT RULES THAT CAN BE PLAYED IN A VARIETY OF PERIODS AND WITH ANY FIGURES YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE. IT’S A COMPLETE GAME – NOT A TEASER – AND IS FREE. I also have a special interest in wargames that use square or hex grids for movement and weapon ranges.WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TWO HOUR WARGAMES! SWORDPLAY 2015 IS AN INTRODUCTION TO TWO HOUR WARGAMES. My main interests are wargaming any wars from 1850 onwards, although I have a special interest in Colonial, the Spanish Civil War, and World War II wargaming. I have also organised – along with Tim Gow - the annual conference (COW – Conference of Wargamers) for the past ten years. I was a founder member of WARGAME DEVELOPMENTS and have been the treasurer and membership secretary ever since. My first 20mm figures were the good old Airfix Guards Infantry and Band (in shocking pink!), soon followed by others as they were released, and by 1968, when I bought my first metal Hinton Hunt 20mm figures, I had a large collection of World War II figures, tanks, guns, and aircraft. The first wargames book I bought was CHARGE! (although I had taken out Donald Featherstone's WAR GAMES book beforehand ).
One of the first toys that I was bought was a wooden fort that was garrisoned by assorted lead soldiers. I have been wargaming for as long as I can remember.
I fought the whole battle in about an hour. In my opinion these are an excellent set of rules. but they had given it a bloody nose and left the invaders seriously weakened. The Eastlanders might not have stopped the advance completely. The Morschauserlanders had achieved their aim of continuing their advance, but at the cost of severe losses. The attacking Morschauserland force comprised: The Eastland commander had three units at his disposal: (This was done to see if this speeded up the pace of the game.)Įastland troops were trying to hold up an advance into Eastland by Morschauserland troops, who had crossed the border to try to regain control part of the disputed border area. The only changes I made to the rules were to use a card-driven unit activation system (as experience has shown me that this makes for a more interesting situation when fighting a solo wargame) and to allow units that have moved to fire during the same turn. I used my mini-campaign board and Hexon II hexed terrain, some of my Megablitz Soviet and German troops, and Scenario 30: 'Last Stand' from the book. I finally managed to try out Martin Rapier's hexed-based variant of the World War II rules in Neil Thomas's ONE-HOUR WARGAMES book.
